What is ORP? Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) indicates the ability of a solution to oxidize or reduce chemical species. This ability is related to the amount of oxygen present in the water. In some applications, ORP is a measure of the disinfecting (oxidizing) power of oxidants in a solution, such as chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and ozone.
Positive ORP values indicate a generally oxidizing environment, while negative valuesindicate a reducing environment. The ORP value is expressed in millivolts (mV) using a combination of an inert noble metal electrode (gold or platinum) and a reference electrode.
